France

In France, they say "Joie de Vivre."

So what does this mean? This phrase expresses a cheerful enjoyment of life. French people enjoy their lives with some cheers!

France is known for its wines and sophisticated cuisine. The capital of France, Paris, is famous for its classical art museums, including the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower.

I had my first glance at the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum back in 2005.  It was my first Europe tour, and everything for me was beautiful. Honestly, I am not a big fan of museums and history, but I surely appreciate great architecture.

My second trip to France was with my daughter, Mary, on her birthday in 2015. After a span of 10 years, not much has changed since then. This place still has the charm and romance that tourists experience and enjoy.

Visiting the Eiffel Tower on her birthday was on Mary's bucket list. It was a dream that came true. I saw enjoyment and fulfillment on her face. I was equally happy to make it happen.

When visiting the Eiffel Tower, especially if you are on a romantic getaway, one best advice is to see it during day time and try to stay until the sun sets. Watching the sunset overlooking the Paris skyline is a different feel. This "city of love" creates passionate energy and vibes. The Eiffel Tower at night is definitely a magnificent sight to see.

There is so much to see and do in Paris. I have some favorite things to do here.  I enjoy sitting outside of the restaurant to watch people pass by.   The relaxing mode makes you appreciate the energy of this great city.

When I travel with my daughter, I always expect extensive walking and sightseeing. It's OK, she pays for (mostly) everything when we travel together, so I have to follow her plans. But this time, it's her birthday, I am proud to say that I covered some expenses.

I revisited some of these places and explore some new sites.

Louvre Museum is the world's greatest and largest museum. One of the most famous pieces of art housed here is the "Mona Lisa."  Seeing this work and how people admire and take photos of it was the most memorable experience of my Louvre Museum visit. My first visit in 2005 was just a feel of the outside beauty.  This time, Mary had to see her favorite "Monet."

Notre Dame Cathedral is a symbolic heart of Paris.  It is a medieval Catholic Cathedral consecrated to the Virgin Mary.  It is famous because the church has a 13th century rose window removed during the second world war for fear of Nazi vandalism. This most visited monument in the world was unfortunately burned in April 2019 and now under restoration.

Pont des Arts is the Love Lock Bridge in Paris. This present-day bridge was built in 1984 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The bridge along the Seine River and the Louvre is a favorite spot for photographers. Visitors, especially lovers, attach personalized padlocks to the railings and throw the keys away in the Seine River.  However, the government has removed many locks, but visitors still continue to do this tradition.

Saint Chapelle is a gothic royal chapel with 13th century stained glass collection. It is considered one of the most extensive stained glasses around the world. Seeing this piece of work was overwhelming.  You would feel a different kind of energy inside.

Champs Elysees was once the famed meeting point for politicians and intellectuals.  It has since become "the world's most beautiful avenue." It is home to several luxury brands and also a spot for cultural activities. Taking photo from where were standing above, created a great shot.

Arc De Triomphe is one of the most famous monuments in Paris.  "It honors those who fought and died in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces." I jumped with gusto. That was the trend during this time-take a jump shot!

Luxembourg Gardens was created in 1612. It is known for its lawns, flowerbeds, and the Medici Fountain. We spent the afternoon walking around, relaxing on the grass, and stayed until sunset.  We have witnessed the colors of flowers blended beautifully with the colors of the sunset.

Mary's trip to Paris wouldn't be complete without visiting "Laduree" a famous place for Macaron. For dessert lovers like Mary and me, this French cookie is a must, but make sure to get it from an authentic store.

Paris is another city that never sleeps, and an expensive city like New York. It is most girls' dream to visit this "city of love." I was glad to have made this trip with Mary on her special day.

There are more beautiful but less famous places than Paris that I would like to explore.  This place called "Nice" would be my next destination. "Nice" is on the French Riviera, the best place for a summer holiday in France.
