Bahamas

Reward yourself when you accomplish a goal.  That's what I did.

My first cruise was with Norwegian in April 2014.  I bought an 8-day cruise as my gift to myself for getting my "dream job" as a Flight Attendant.

The cruise left from New York.  I was so excited; I had luggage with stuff I would need for this getaway, such as a hat, swimsuit, sunblock, book, iPad, camera.

However, I thought I was prepared. Apparently, I wasn't.  The most important thing I forgot. Guess what? It's my "green card ID."  I honestly didn't realize that I needed it. I had my NY ID, but because it was my first cruise,  I didn't know I had to bring my green card.  As soon as I found out that I needed it, I took a cab to get it.  I asked the taxi driver to drove as fast as he could.  And he did.  Thank God.  I made it in time!  So you know, I had a lesson learned there.

The archipelago consists of more than 700 islands.  The Bahamas is one of the richest countries in the Americas, with an economy based largely on tourism. Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and the center of commerce.

No wonder the Bahamas is a famous and expensive Caribbean country.  There are numerous celebrities and other prominent people who live there. So vacationing here feels like you're one of them.

My cabin was located in a "solo cruise cabin," which is obviously for solo travelers, but you get a chance to meet other solo travelers.  I don't mind traveling solo, as I am used to it. Mingling with strangers is something I don't mind doing as well.

Cruise is a different fun experience. While the cruise is docked, there are many activities to do for all ages, from swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, water sports, parasailing, island tours, and shopping. I only did the tour and shopping. As most everybody knows, I am not into those water activities except just to enjoy the view.

I saw a lighthouse from afar.  Unfortunately, I had no opportunity to see her closer, but this turquoise clear water was already a beautiful sight to appreciate.  On my next visit, I will make sure to explore that lighthouse.

While the cruise sails, there are a variety of activities as well.  There's a pool for kids, dancing at night, a bar with live music, broadway shows, and a casino.  I watched a show, enjoyed my favorite Beatles music, and I danced with the crowd.

One thing that amazed me is the abundance of food they serve every single day.  There's an enormous variety of food you can choose from a buffet or selected restaurants. When you are on a diet, a cruise vacation is not for you.  You will definitely gain weight after being on a cruise for few days. I think I did.

It was not surprising for me to find out that there are lots of Filipino workers on board.  Actually, 80 percent of the cruise staff is Filipino. I met a couple of Filipinos who were on vacation.  They invited me to join them during dinner.  It's always nice to meet Filipinos and strangers. Some of them stay as your friends.

A gorgeous sunset. Beautiful beaches. A fun cruise. A well-deserved reward. These are the wonderful memories of my Bahamas trip. It was indeed a grandeur experience!
